Here are the steps I took to prepare for this endeavor.
Step 1) Go online and see what others have done
Step 2) Like some approaches, that you cannot afford
Step 3) Get frustrated
Step 4) Walk away from all of it and tell your partner other he can just use it as is
Step 5) Tell your partner that he can’t use the space as is, because that would just be sad
Step 6) Rethink everything, and try to fit it into some imaginary budget you gave yourself
Step 7) Pick what you think maybe the cheapest, attainable, and somehow most labor-intensive options and just go for it
Step 8) Go to the Hardware store and buy things on the list and then some. I mean I did have a list, but once you get there all bets are off!
Step 9) Try to get all the items home with a normal size car – Yeah right!
Step 10) DO THE CRAFTING!
I think Step #9 was nothing if not an omen for this project.
So how did it go? Well, we eventually got stuff but wasn’t the easiest, and I bet we will have to go back throughout the process. Shopping with all the COVID restrictions and cautions was stressful enough, then add your significant other wandering off to find “other stuff”. But in the end, we got at least all the stuff we felt like we needed at the time ... and then some. Without boring you too much, the shopping trip consisted of:
- A failed attempt to transport drywall on the roof of my car
- Renting a truck to move the drywall home
- Realizing that getting “cool looking” wood 45 minutes away wasn’t worth it
- Going back to the same hardware store (without truck) to get more lumber that had to be tetrised into the car
So now we get to actually start the crafting!
I will try to divide the coming Blogs into sections with lots of pictures, which show step by step what we are doing and especially how we did it, so you can do better 😊 or just laugh a bit at my expense, or who knows you can cheer us on and get inspired.
